Potato Market Update
Russet potato demand is steady. All major shipping areas feel comfortable that their remaining inventories will last until the new crop arrives in late July to early August.
Growers in North Dakota continue to ship red potatoes and are expected to do so until the end of June. Contact your RPE sales representative for red potato opportunities.
New crop white potato supplies remain available in California and the Southeast growing areas. Demand remains limited to those growing areas. Pricing is unchanged.
Supplies of new-crop yellow potatoes are becoming available with above-average pricing. Storage crop yellow potatoes are available but in a minimal way in North Dakota, Idaho, and Canada.
New crop fingerling potato supplies are available in California but at an extremely high cost. Pricing will remain strong until more shipping areas bring the new crop to market.
Onion Market Update
Growers are finishing their season in the Imperial Valley this week and transitioning to the San Joaquin Valley. There will be some gaps due to wet weather in California. The markets are strong and expect to remain strong as we get closer to the storage crop.
Onion growers are starting in New Mexico, and the pacific northwest will start new crops next month.
